One month old

It's hard to believe Lincoln has spent the first month of his life in a hospital. It has been a long journey that will hopefully be over soon. We have been so blessed and learned so many valuable lessons but Will is sick of sleeping on the couch so I think it is time to go home.

Today was a bit of a frustrating day but Lincoln made a lot of progress. With a little pushing on our end the doctors switched Lincolns feeds from continuous to every three hours over a 20 minute period. They wanted to wait to switch his feeds until after he had the swallow study, however someone forgot to schedule it so he will hopefully get it tomorrow. Feeding is the last obstacle that Lincoln needs to overcome, it makes it hard for him to want to eat if he always has food in his belly. So now at least can start working on eating like a regular baby.

They also removed his picc line today, again with a lot of pushing on our end. There always seems to be a break down somewhere in the communication line from surgeons, to doctors, to nurse practitioners, to RN's and we always seem to be the ones to have to fill in the gaps. We are just glad that it is gone. Not only was it a potential source of infection but we can now hold our baby without wheeling the iv stand around.

After the swallow study tomorrow we will have a better idea of when we will be coming home. We hope it is soon. We continue to feel the effects of your prayers. Thank you!

Will and Dr. Reddy, the man that saved our baby's life.

Me too. It is sad to me that it has been a whole month now, and you are just barely getting to hold him regularly. But happy that is won't be much longer, hopefully. It will be so exciting for you guys to get him home and be done with it all. Hang in there, you all are looking great.

P.S. the way your hair is in the last pic, it looks kind of short, and I actually think it would look pretty cute! Ha ha. loves.

I'm so sorry that you've had to prod the medical staff so much, but it sounds like things are moving along. Hope all goes well with the shallow study! From the pictures, you'd never believe you've been living out of suitcases for a month. You are hardy stock! You are one handsome bunch! I love the pictures, btw, and especially the blue pacifier---it's just like the ones that the triplets got when they were in the NICU. Makes me smile. Also, don't forget you can call Dr. Troy (Barber) any time you like--even if it's just to vent. He's been reading your blog and keeping up with Lincoln's progress.

Happy 1 month birthday to Lincoln! He looks so good--and it's so fun to see him without all the wires! So sorry this is how you've had to spend the first month of his life, but so glad it's coming to an end! Good for you for pushing the doctors/nurses. He is YOUR baby, after all, and I think it's fair that you have a say in what goes on. I love the picture of Will & Lincoln with the surgeon; that's so nice you were able to get it. Hope the feeding goes well. Is there any way you can still try to breastfeed him? Or has it been too long so that your only option is a bottle? Just curious--either way is great. Good luck!

He's looking so good- can't wait to hold him instead of just rubbing his fuzzy little head! You'll be home soon- hang in there a little longer!

Holly- They said we can try breastfeeding after the swallow study, assuming it goes ok. So hopefully today.
